Meet Joey , our very first Silver Sands Veterinary Pet of the Month — and what a perfect choice he is! Joey is a 16-year-old dachshund with a heart of gold, a love for sunshine, and a signature snuggle-under-the-blanket move that melts everyone who meets him.

Joey has been part of the SSV family since he was just a tiny pup in 2009, and he has charmed our team at every visit. Whether he’s lounging in a warm sunbeam or proudly carrying around his favorite toy, Charlie the squirrel , Joey brings endless joy to his mom and to all of us here at the clinic.

As a distinguished senior gentleman, Joey has navigated his share of health challenges with remarkable strength. He lives with heart disease, which means we take extra precautions during any procedure, but thanks to careful monitoring, the right medications, and lots of love from his mom, he continues to thrive.

Joey has also dealt with dental disease for much of his life, which has required ongoing care and occasional oral surgeries to keep him comfortable and healthy.

Most recently, he needed attention for an infected area in his mouth, and despite being a higher-risk anesthesia patient, Joey handled everything with his usual bravery. With thorough pre-anesthesia testing and gentle monitoring from his care team, he came through beautifully — tail wags and all.

To celebrate everything this sweet boy has overcome, Joey received a gift bag full of treats and surprises, along with a $25 Silver Sands gift certificate that can be used for any of our services. It’s our way of honoring a truly exceptional patient who has been part of our family for nearly his entire life.
